About Gord and this Site:
I am proudly Canadian and enjoy writing songs that reflect Canadian perspectives. To that end, I try to write songs about subjects closest to the hearts of most Canadians.
I enjoy performing a wide array of songs in multiple genres, especially folk, country, rock, pop & songs for kids and Canadiana.
I recently moved from Victoria to Qualicum Beach. Distance wise, it's a very short move. I'm excited about meeting a few local musicians and playing with them. One of the best things about music has to be the sharing and caring that goes into playing and making music together
In my family tree, Thomas Oliphant is credited as writing the English lyrics to the Scottish Christmas carol Deck the Halls in 1862. Thomas wrote a lot of his own music and lyrics but he also translated foreign songs. In cases where he didn’t know the language of the song's origin, he often made up his own lyrics based solely on what the music brought to his mind. In addition to writing and performing his own music in royal courts, Thomas translated roughly 400 songs for them. True poetic license? Fa la la la la, la la la la !!!
